A few years ago we had mated the Misty/Bundy daughter Winuwuk Love in the Mist to Celebration and this produced a nice bitch called Winuwuk Love Story who just hated the showring.  She went to a couple of shows and did OK but it was pretty clear that her heart was never going to be in it!  She went to live with a friend of ours who used to help out in the kennels and when it was time for her to be mated we put her to our young Champion dog, Hot n Bothered.

Two bitch puppies stood out (both of whom feature on our puppy page … see if you can spot them!) but we were always drawn to Pepsi with her lovely expression and super smart outline.  She was a slow maturing girl who grew up before she grew out. This caused Andrew Brace to call her our ‘hat-rack’ when we took her out for the first time under him in February 2002 at the Midland Boxer Club, but this must have been a compliment since he gave her 1st place in an outstanding Minor Puppy Class.

Her early career was promising with some good Puppy and Junior wins.  As is usual for us we then took her out of the ring for an early first litter which we thought would be good for her, giving her some added maturity through the body.  This was a lovely litter sired by Ch Winuwuk Lust in the Dust and it contained the dual CC winner Winuwuk Top Story at Kenbru.  We then brought her out again, she was looking great and she won her first Reserve CC under Marion Seeney and her first CC under Keith Jump at Belfast.

As always with great producing bitches it is a challenge to balance a show career and maternal duties.  We had had our appetite whetted by her first litter so we repeated the breeding which paid off, producing Ch Winuwuk Lust at First Sight.  Back in the ring she won another Reserve CC under Yvonne Miller at Windsor.

We then had a shock when Ch Belvern Demetrius 'helped himself' to Pepsi very early in her season.  Quite against our expectations, she took, producing Winuwuk Ripping Yarn.  Remarkably, returning to the ring after this third litter she was looking as good as ever and she won Reserve CCs from David Webb at Belfast and Betty McDonald at the Northern, Open Bitch at Crufts and then, amid great celebrations, the CC from Yvonne Miller at Birmingham on the same day that her son won the Dog CC & BOB.  It was our 150th CC in Boxers, so very special.  In truth, Pepsi could sometimes be her own worst enemy.  She has always been a very hormonal bitch and with the associated false pregnancies we always said that we only ever got about 2 months out of 6 when she was on real top form.  We just had to hope that the judges and shows fell at the right times - the recent run of shows had thankfully done just that.

A few more Open wins followed, and she was closely considered for the CC on a number of occasions through the Summer, but that third CC was eluding her.  She was now over 6 and was going through another major false pregnancy which wasn’t doing much for her underline.  By the time we travelled over for the annual 'Irish Weekend' we were beginning to think that we were never going to do it.  However, as we were walking Pepsi round in the car park before the Irish Boxer Club we both noticed how well she was looking and how her false pregnancy had completely gone, but we didn’t think any more of it.  Then we got her into Open Bitch and it was as if she had been saving up for this moment for the last five and a half years.  She simply sparkled and looked a million dollars!  She won Open Bitch and after another circuit of the ring in the challenge, judge Lesley Wearing awarded her that crucial third CC making her the 19th Winuwuk Boxer Champion.  The ringside gave her a huge cheer and there wasn’t a dry eye in the house.  We were absolutely thrilled.

Pepsi has now retired onto her laurels and looks forward to what she has always enjoyed most - having a family.  This is something she is very good at, demonstrated by the fact that in  August 2007 she was awarded the prestigious British Boxer Club Dam of Merit Award (becoming the 4th Winuwuk Boxer to have been honoured in this way).

We are very proud of Pepsi and particularly of the fact that she won 2 of her 3 CCs after her third litter.  There aren’t many Boxer bitches who have achieved that.

We sadly lost Pepsi to a brain tumour in March 2010
